Jenny at the Newton Park Allotments

Jenny's Plan to Reduce Allotment Waiting Lists in Wirral West:

Jenny has a comprehensive plan to tackle the growing waiting lists for allotments in Wirral West if elected as our Member of Parliament. The increasing popularity of gardening has led to soaring demand for allotments, leaving many aspiring gardeners disappointed. To address this issue, Jenny and the Wirral West Conservatives have devised a strategy to reduce waiting lists and ensure more people can enjoy the benefits of having their own plots.

The plan calls for local authorities, community groups, and residents to collaborate in creating more gardening opportunities and streamlining the allotment allocation process. Key strategies of the initiative include:

1. Expanding Allotment Spaces:

Wirral Council should identify several underutilised spaces that can be converted into new allotment sites, providing additional plots for residents. The council can also explore partnerships with local landowners and businesses to lease or donate land for community allotments.

2. Enhancing Existing Allotments:

To maximise the use of current allotment sites, the council and local councillors should work collaboratively with local allotment groups throughout Wirral West.

3. Promoting Community Gardens/Orchards:

Community gardens offer a collaborative approach to urban gardening, where multiple residents work together, fostering community spirit, education, and cooperation. The new community orchard in Moreton is a great example of how these initiatives can succeed. Jenny plans to support and expand such community-driven gardening projects, like the Incredible Edible groups.

4. Raising Awareness and Involvement:

A public awareness campaign should be launched to highlight the benefits of gardening and allotments, as well as the steps being taken to reduce waiting lists. This campaign will encourage more residents to get involved in local gardening efforts and support the creation of new allotment spaces.

By focusing on these initiatives, Jenny and the Wirral West Conservatives aim to not only reduce allotment waiting lists but also enhance the quality of life for residents through the joys of gardening.
