SafeAcross Campaign Gains Momentum in Greasby, Frankby and Irby

A new campaign to improve the safety of school crossings across Greasby, Frankby and Irby is winning strong local support.

Conservative campaigner David Fairbairn has launched the first phase of his SafeAcross initiative — starting with SafeAcross Irby, which focuses on improving safety at the busy Thurstaston Road crossing used daily by parents and pupils from Irby walking to Dawpool Primary School.

When speaking with Irby residents, David and his team heard a number of concerns about the safety of pedestrians on the busy road linking Thurstaston to Irby. Many highlighted the speed of traffic and limited visibility at key crossing points. In response, David decided to take action. Working closely with Councillor Jenny Johnson (West Kirby and Thurstaston Ward), new signage has already been requested — an important first step towards protecting children and supporting Irby’s dedicated school crossing patrols.

Over recent weeks, David has been out in Irby Village with his campaign table and has gone door to door to gather local views.

“The response from residents has been fantastic,” David said. “It’s so important that people have the chance to be heard on such an important local issue. Everyone agrees that children’s safety must come first.”

The campaign has proved so popular that Dawpool Primary School has circulated David’s road safety survey to all parents — helping to ensure that real local experiences and suggestions guide the next stages of the campaign.

Building on this strong start, David now plans to extend the SafeAcross initiative to other parts of Greasby, Frankby and Irby, working with local councillors, schools and residents to identify further safety improvements — from clearer road markings to better lighting and enhanced crossing points.

“This is just the beginning,” David added. “With the community behind us, we can make our local roads safer for everyone.”
