A 70-acre industrial solar farm is being proposed on Green Belt between Irby and Thurstaston. It would destroy one of Wirral’s most iconic landscapes. We promised to protect Wirral’s Green Belt, and that is exactly what we will do. Please add your name and help stop this development.
A developer is proposing to build a massive 70-acre industrial solar farm at Rose Cottage, off Station Road, Thurstaston. This is productive farmland in an Area of Special Landscape Value, close to the Wirral Way and the Thurstaston SSSI.
If approved, this development would mean:
• 3.5 metre high solar panels covering the equivalent of 40 football pitches
• Heavy industrial infrastructure including substations and transformers
• Continuous noise from cooling fans
• High security fencing cutting through wildlife corridors
• CCTV and lighting causing disturbance to nocturnal animals
• Significant disruption and danger on local rural roads during construction
• Permanent loss of open views enjoyed by thousands of residents and visitors
This proposal is unnecessary, inappropriate, and damaging to one of Wirral’s most treasured locations.
We call on Wirral Council to:
• Reject the Rose Cottage Solar Farm proposal
• Protect Thurstaston’s Green Belt, Area of Special Landscape Value and SSSI
• Uphold the Local Plan requirement that solar schemes be directed to brownfield and previously developed sites
• Protect this landscape for future generations
• Say no to industrial-scale solar farms anywhere on Wirral’s Green Belt
