SafeAcross Irby – Protect Children and School Crossing Patrols
For families in Irby, walking to Dawpool Primary School should be safe.
However, many residents have raised concerns about speeding traffic, poor visibility, and drivers not slowing down near the school crossing patrol on Thurstaston Road. These risks affect children, parents, and the crossing patrol staff every school day.
Greasby, Frankby and Irby campaigner, David Fairbairn, launched the SafeAcross Irby Road Safety Survey so local residents could identify practical improvements.
What Residents Want
The clearest result from the survey is support for Vehicle Activated Speed (VAS) signs near the school crossing.
These signs are proven to be effective in:
• Encouraging drivers to slow down
• Reminding drivers about the road conditions
• Improving safety near schools
• Can be installed quickly with minimal disruption
Further improvements can follow once this first step is in place.
